Help desk and feedback board: one tool or two?

Andreas F

Here is a pattern we saw over and over before we built the Veerify inbox.

A customer emails support: “Any chance you could add CSV export?” Someone replies, “Great idea, I’ve passed it on.” Then they open a second tab, find the feedback tool, search for “CSV”, see there is already a request with 12 votes, add one more on behalf of the customer, and maybe paste a link to the email. Most of the time they skip that last part. Six months later CSV export ships, and nobody tells that customer.

That gap between the inbox and the roadmap is the whole argument for one tool. But one tool isn’t always the right answer, so here is how the options compare.

The setups

We looked at three common setups for a small product team, say three people who share support and product work:

  1. Help Scout + Canny. A dedicated help desk and a dedicated feedback tool.
  2. Featurebase. Feedback, roadmap, changelog, live chat, inbox and help center in one product.
  3. Veerify. Feedback, roadmap, changelog and a shared email inbox on your own domain, open source.

What it costs

List prices from each vendor’s pricing page in November 2026:

SetupHow it is pricedThree people, per month
Help Scout Standard + Canny Pro$25 per user (listed) + from $79 (yearly)About $154
Featurebase Growth$29 per seat (yearly), $37 (monthly)$87 to $111
VeerifyFree during beta$0 for now

Help Scout and Featurebase both give a discount for paying yearly, so check which billing period you are comparing. Canny’s price rises with tracked users, and Help Scout charges extra for additional inboxes, so the first row usually grows faster than the others. Veerify will have paid plans after the beta. We have not set prices yet.

When two tools are the right call

Help Scout is a very good help desk. It has multiple inboxes, live chat, SMS, a docs site, advanced workflows and SLA policies, round-robin routing, Salesforce and HubSpot integrations, and HIPAA compliance on its top plan. Canny is equally mature on the feedback side.

If support is its own team with its own manager and metrics, keep them separate. That team will use features neither Featurebase nor Veerify has, and the cost of linking two tools is small compared with what you would give up.

The same goes for regulated industries. If you need HIPAA, check what each vendor actually certifies before anything else.

When one tool is better

One tool wins when the people answering support are also deciding what to build. That describes most companies under about twenty people.

With the inbox and the board in one product:

  • Turning an email into a feature request takes one click, and the customer is linked to it.
  • When the feature ships, you can see exactly who asked.
  • You have one list of customers instead of two that disagree.

Featurebase or Veerify?

Both cover the basics. The difference is mainly chat versus email.

Featurebase has live chat and a help center. If your customers expect to chat with you on your website, it is the better pick.

Veerify is built around email. You connect your own domain and create addresses on it, like support@ for the helpdesk with SLAs and satisfaction surveys, hello@ as a quiet shared mailbox, and a catch-all for typos. Any address can also forward to someone outside the team. Replies go out from the address the customer wrote to.

Veerify is also open source and can be self-hosted, and it has an MCP server so AI agents can work through your inbox and feedback with your permissions.

What Veerify lacks: live chat, a help center, and the long list of integrations that Help Scout and Canny have built over the years. We are a small team in open beta, and we would rather you knew that up front.

A simple test

Count how many support conversations last month ended with “I’ll pass that on to the team.” If it is a handful, two tools are fine. If it is a big share of your inbox, you are paying for the gap between them, in money and in customers who never hear back.

FAQ

Can one tool handle both customer support and feature requests?

Yes. Featurebase and Veerify both combine a support inbox with feedback boards and a public roadmap. Dedicated help desks like Help Scout are deeper on support but do not include feature voting.

Does Help Scout have a feature request board?

Not as a built-in product. Help Scout teams usually connect a separate feedback tool such as Canny.

What does it cost to run Help Scout and Canny together?

At November 2026 list prices, three people on Help Scout Standard ($25 per user) plus Canny Pro (from $79 a month billed yearly) comes to about $154 a month.
