Canny alternatives in 2026: what we would pick, and when

Andreas F

We build Veerify, so you should read this with that in mind. We have tried to be fair anyway, partly because a comparison that only praises its author is useless, and partly because Veerify is not the right answer for every team. Some of you should stay on Canny.

Prices below are from each vendor’s pricing page in November 2026. They change often, so check before you decide.

Why people leave Canny

Canny is good software. Most of the complaints we hear are about pricing, not features. The free plan covers 25 tracked users, and paid plans start at $79 a month billed yearly, with the price going up as you track more users. If your product has a lot of users who vote now and then, that model gets expensive faster than you expect.

The second reason is scope. Canny is a feedback tool. It connects well to help desks like Intercom and Zendesk, but it does not replace one, so you end up paying for two products and keeping them in sync.

If neither of those bothers you, Canny is a safe choice. It is mature, has lots of integrations, and its Autopilot feature pulls feedback out of support conversations and sales calls for you.

Featurebase

Featurebase is the closest thing to Canny with a help desk built in. You get boards, a roadmap, a changelog, surveys, live chat, a ticket inbox and a help center. Pricing is per seat: $29, $59 or $99 a month billed yearly, or $37, $75 or $129 billed monthly, depending on the plan. Two seats on Growth come to $58 a month billed yearly, below Canny’s $79 starting price. A third seat takes you past it. The difference is what you pay for: Featurebase charges for your team, Canny for your users. A small team with a lot of active users may still pay less on Featurebase, and a large team with few users less on Canny.

Pick it if you want live chat and a knowledge base in the same product as your roadmap. We wrote a longer Featurebase comparison if that is where you are leaning.

Frill

Frill keeps things simple: ideas, a roadmap and announcements, with a widget you embed in your app. Plans start at $25 a month for 50 active ideas and go to $49 for unlimited ideas. There is no free plan, only a trial. It also lists a Canny importer, which makes switching easier.

Pick it if you want flat pricing that does not grow with your user count and you do not need support tooling.

Nolt

Nolt is a clean, minimal voting board with a roadmap. It does less than the others on purpose, and some teams like that. There is no free tier. If your whole requirement is “a place for users to post and upvote ideas,” Nolt is worth a look.

Fider

Fider is open source under AGPL-3.0, has been around for years, and is the most popular self-hosted option. Its cloud version is free up to about 250 feedback items, and the $25 Pro plan adds moderation and SEO indexing. Fider is a voting board and discussion space. Its site does not list a roadmap view or changelog.

Pick it if you want the smallest possible open-source install. More in Fider vs Veerify.

Veerify

Veerify covers the same ground as Canny (boards, voting, a public roadmap, a changelog with RSS) and adds a few things Canny does not have:

  • A shared inbox. Connect your domain, create addresses like support@ or hello@, and answer customers from the same place you track their requests. Each address can be plain mail or a helpdesk address with SLAs, auto-replies and satisfaction surveys.
  • A REST API and an MCP server, so Claude or another AI agent can triage feedback, file GitHub issues or run an import for you.
  • GitHub issue sync. Feedback can create an issue, and closing the issue marks the feedback as done.
  • The source code, on GitHub, under AGPL-3.0.

Now the parts we would want to know as a buyer. Veerify is in open beta and run by a small team. It has fewer integrations than Canny. There is no live chat widget and no help center. The inbox is for email. If you self-host, the email features need a mail provider set up on top of PostgreSQL and object storage.

Moving from Canny works through our MCP server. You give an AI agent access to your Canny account, it converts boards, posts, comments, votes and changelog entries into Veerify’s import format, and Veerify shows you a preview before anything is written. Running it again later only fills in what is new and keeps your edits.

So which one?

  • Stay on Canny if the price works for you and you rely on its integrations.
  • Featurebase if you want live chat and a help center bundled with feedback.
  • Frill or Nolt if you want a simple board at a flat price.
  • Fider if you want open source and nothing more than a voting board.
  • Veerify if you want feedback, roadmap, changelog and a support inbox together, open source, and you are fine with a product that is still in beta.

The Canny comparison page has a shorter version of this if you need something to send to your team.

FAQ

What is the best free Canny alternative?

It depends on what you need beyond voting. Fider Cloud is free up to about 250 feedback items and is open source. Featurebase has a free plan with one seat and one board. Veerify is free during its beta and includes roadmap, changelog and a shared inbox.

Is there an open-source Canny alternative?

Yes. Fider and Veerify are both open source under AGPL-3.0 and can be self-hosted. Fider is a focused voting board. Veerify adds a public roadmap, changelog, shared inbox and an API.

Can I move my data out of Canny?

Most alternatives offer some form of Canny import. Frill lists one on its pricing page. Veerify imports posts, comments, votes, statuses and changelog entries through its MCP server, and shows a preview before anything is written.
